Apple's speech engine downloads nothing. WhisperKit models range from roughly 150 MB to 1.5 GB. A local language model is typically 2 to 5 GB. PRIVACY Vays does not collect, transmit or store any of your data off device. No analytics. No crash reporters phoning home. You decide where Vays thinks. Vays still records, transcribes, and separates speakers on this Mac, exactly as before, with Ollama remaining the default engine for AI summaries. What’s new in 2.9 is that if you want a different model behind Vays AI features, you can now choose it yourself. * Connect your own AI model. In Settings → AI, you can point Vays to any server supporting the OpenAI Chat Completions API: LM Studio or llama.cpp running on this Mac, a computer on your own network, or a cloud provider such as OpenAI, OpenRouter, or Groq using your own account and API key. Presets fill in the address for you, while the Test button measures response time and fetches the available model list directly from the server. Your API key is stored securely in the Keychain on this Mac. * Off until you turn it on. A new provider is disabled by default, and even after configuration, nothing is sent to it until you explicitly enable a specific feature. A LOCAL, LAN, or CLOUD label shows you where your text would go. Before anything is sent outside your Mac or local network, Vays shows the destination host, tells you exactly what will be sent, and waits for your confirmation.
