Compare anything on your Mac. Text, source code, PDFs, JSON, Plist, XML, images, even binary files — DiffSnap reads what you drop and tells you, in plain English, what changed. DROP ANYTHING Drop two files and DiffSnap auto-detects what they are and picks the right comparison engine. Drop two photos and it slides between them pixel by pixel. You don't pick a mode — the app figures it out. THE ANSWER, FIRST Every comparison opens with a one-sentence summary at the top of the screen. "7 changes: 3 added, 1 removed, 3 modified across 5 sections." "Same page count, 23 lines changed." "Pixels are identical, file size dropped 2.4 MB." The app answers the question you came with — what is the difference? PROVE NOTHING CHANGED Every file shows its SHA-256. Two matching digests mean the files are byte-for-byte identical — and when the content reads the same but the digests differ, DiffSnap says so, because line endings, encoding and key order are real changes that a text comparison quietly hides. WHAT IT COMPARES • TEXT & SOURCE CODE — Side-by-side line diff with character-level highlights inside modified lines. Syntax colouring for Swift, JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Go, Rust, Ruby, Java, Kotlin, C, C++, Objective-C, JSON, YAML, XML, HTML, CSS, SQL, shell, and Markdown. • PDFs — Per-page text extraction, page-count and metadata diff, plus full-text comparison. • JSON, PLIST, XML — Parsed, sorted, canonicalised, then compared structurally, so the app shows what values actually changed — not what indentation moved. • IMAGES — Side-by-side, swipe slider, onion-skin overlay, and pixel-difference modes, on a checkerboard so transparency reads as transparency. Resolution and file-size deltas surface instantly. • BINARY FILES — Anything else falls back to a clean hex dump with offsets and ASCII gutters. EDIT AND MERGE Turn on editing and change any line in place, without leaving the comparison. Directional arrows on every changed line — pick left or right, line by line, or accept all from one side. Export the result as plain text, HTML, PDF, or as a unified .patch file ready for git apply. KEYBOARD-FIRST ⌘O and ⇧⌘O open each side. ⌘↑/⌘↓ jump between changes. ⌘N starts over. DiffSnap 1.2 — rebuilt around the comparison: • No more tab bar. Drop a file or a pair of images and DiffSnap works out what they are and switches for you • Every control now lives in one sidebar, in the order you actually use them • Each file shows its SHA-256, so you can tell at a glance whether anything changed at all — including when the content reads the same but the files differ in line endings or encoding • Edit any line without leaving the comparison — switch on editing and click the line you want to change • Brighter, clearer green and red, so added and removed are obvious at a glance instead of two shades of grey • Images now sit on a checkerboard, so transparency reads as transparency • The window is all work: no title bar, no toolbar, and the diff starts at the top of the screen instead of a third of the way down • Failed exports finally say so instead of closing silently Folder comparison has been removed. It was the one part of DiffSnap that ended in a file browser rather than an answer, and keeping it meant spreading the app thin. Everything else got sharper for it. As always: every comparison runs on your Mac, and nothing is ever uploaded.
