Description
ItsPaint is a focused paint app for the Mac. Open an image, make a quick edit, and export it without setting up a workspace. The tools, colours and palette stay visible in one native window. It covers the markup jobs that usually take three apps: take the screenshot, number the steps of a bug report with automatic step badges, pixelate a token before it leaves your Mac, and knock a background out with Instant Alpha. SCREENSHOTS • File ▸ New from Screenshot brings up the macOS crosshair: drag a region or press Space for a window, and the shot opens as a new image • ⌃⌥⌘4 does the same from any app once you switch it on in Settings, and ⌃⌥⌘V opens whatever is on the clipboard • Drag the finished image straight into Mail, Slack or a bug tracker, without saving a file first TOOLS • Thirteen tools: pencil, brush (round, square, soft, and spray tips), highlighter, eraser, clone, shape, text, step badge, fill, eyedropper, selection, pixelate, and spotlight. Instant Alpha is one of four ways to select, alongside rectangle, ellipse and lasso • Fifteen shapes, from lines, curves and arrows to polygons, stars and a speech bubble, with solid, dashed or dotted outlines and optional fills • Step badges count up on their own: click 1, 2, 3 across a screenshot • Pixelate for quick visual de-emphasis of the bits you would rather not ship • Spotlight dims everything outside a box you drag, so the eye lands where you meant it to • Clone copies pixels from elsewhere on the same canvas, or softens what is already there. It is the one tool that puts missing content back • Instant Alpha removes a background deterministically, with a tolerance you control, and no model deciding for you • Remove Background does the same job in one command, and declines rather than guessing when the image is too flat to key safely • Signature capture: sign with a trackpad, mouse or tablet, or import a photo of a signature on paper. The ink is keyed to transparent and trimmed to itself, so it lands on the artwork instead of on a white patch CANVAS • Pointer-centred zoom, pixel grid, and live tool footprints • Paste without losing anything: the canvas grows to hold a larger image, and the window follows • Rotate by any angle, with the canvas growing to fit the corners • Crop, canvas resize, and scale FILES • Editable .itspaint documents: a lossless PNG with a JSON sidecar, so the file opens anywhere • Export to PNG, JPEG, TIFF, BMP, GIF, HEIC, AVIF, PDF, and ICO, with format and scale controls • Opens PNG, JPEG, TIFF, BMP, GIF, HEIC, and PDF. A PDF arrives as a page you can draw on, and saves back as a PDF PRIVATE BY CONSTRUCTION • No account, no telemetry and no cloud. The app contains no network code at all • Sandboxed, and it reads only the files you choose • Open source under the MIT licence Requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later. Runs natively on Apple silicon and Intel.
Nouveautés
Version 0.23.0 · 25/09/2026Take a screenshot straight into ItsPaint. File ▸ New from Screenshot, or the Dock menu, brings up the macOS crosshair: drag a region or press Space for a window, and the shot opens as a new image ready to mark up. Switch on ⌃⌥⌘4 in Settings to do the same from any app. macOS asks for Screen Recording permission the first time. Large images are faster. Drawing no longer copies the whole picture on every stroke, zooming stays smooth, a pasted image resizes instantly until you let go, and Remove Background is about six times quicker. Fixes: a paste that is still floating is saved with the document instead of being lost when the window closes. ⌘I is Italic again while you type. A polygon you are still drawing no longer wipes out the next command, and ⌘Z reaches every step.
