Bearing: Orienteering Compass

Description

Bearing is not a boring compass. Open it, and your phone becomes a precision instrument: heading in degrees and cardinals overlaid on a real time map, true or magnetic north, magnetic declination, tilt-corrected by CoreMotion, and a full data card that always shows altitude, speed, barometric pressure, temperature, wind, humidity, and sunrise / sunset — all on one screen, all the time. Built for hikers, sailors, pilots, and anyone who wants more from their iPhone than a stock compass. COMPASS YOU CAN TRUST • Heading in degrees with cardinal label (N, NE, E, SE…) • Toggle true north or magnetic north • Live magnetic declination on screen • Tilt-corrected via Apple's CoreMotion sensor fusion • Configurable haptic feedback at every cardinal crossing • Calibration alerts you can turn on or off • Tap the dial to lock a bearing — the arrow holds your line • Optional map overlay rendered inside the dial, with adjustable zoom A FULL DATA CARD, ALWAYS VISIBLE Below the compass dial, every reading you actually use — together, no extra taps: • Altitude (meters, feet, multiple references) • Speed in km/h, mph, or knots • Barometric pressure in hPa or inHg via the on-device altimeter sensor • Temperature, sky condition, humidity • Wind speed and direction • Sunrise and sunset for your exact location Weather is delivered first-party through Apple WeatherKit. No third-party servers. No tracker pixels. COORDINATES, EVERY FORMAT • Live latitude and longitude • Reverse-geocoded city / region label • Decimal Degrees (DD) • Degrees Minutes Seconds (DMS) • Degrees Decimal Minutes (DDM) • Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) WAYPOINTS THAT FOLLOW YOU Save any spot — trailhead, anchorage, summit, your car — as a named waypoint. Tap one to navigate: a bearing arrow on the dial points the way and the distance updates live as you move. Stored locally with SwiftData. Your locations never leave your device. SUN, MOON, QIBLA • Real-time Sun position on the dial — useful for golden hour and ridge navigation • Moon position • Qibla direction — bearing to Mecca, accurate from anywhere on Earth SIX THEMES INCLUDED • Tactical (black + warm orange — the default) • Light • Arctic (pale blue/white, high contrast for snow) • Solar (warm cream and gold) • Night Red (red on black — preserves night vision) • Night Green (alternate night vision) BUILT THE RIGHT WAY • iPhone and iPad, iOS 18.6 or later • Native CoreLocation, CoreMotion, CoreHaptics • Apple WeatherKit (no third-party weather APIs) • MapLibre rendering • No third-party analytics. No ads. • Your location stays on your device.
