SafeVolume automatically lowers your Mac’s output volume when it stays above the maximum level you choose. Set your preferred maximum volume, and SafeVolume continuously monitors the system volume. If it rises above that level, the app gradually lowers it back to your target instead of changing it abruptly. Because the volume decreases progressively, your hearing has time to adjust, making the change less noticeable and preserving a natural listening experience. More predictable volume levels may also feel more comfortable for people with tinnitus, hyperacusis, hearing fatigue, or sound sensitivity. THE SCIENCE BEHIND THE APP Hearing risk depends on both volume and listening time. Prolonged loud sound can fatigue the sensory cells of the inner ear, while the auditory system can become accustomed to sustained loudness, making unsafe levels feel normal. Because safe listening time decreases as volume rises, SafeVolume gradually returns it to your preferred maximum without abrupt changes.
