Turn the sound on. The preview above is the app striking three o'clock, and then the Westminster figure on a second bell. Nothing in it is a recording: every strike is computed from a real bell's partial ratios, the moment it sounds. Every other sound your Mac makes is addressed to you, and each one opens a small debt: read it, answer it, clear it. A bell at three o'clock is addressed to the room. Nobody sent it. There's nothing to dismiss. FOUR FACES • Mantel — brass, cream enamel, blued steel • Station — matte black, red sweep second hand • Chronometer — brushed steel, guilloché dial • Nocturne — dark ceramic, luminous indices Each dial is drawn in code, not stored as a picture: as sharp at ninety pixels as at five hundred. FIVE BELLS • Westminster — the quarters, then the hour • Whittington — the other English change-ringing tune • Ship's Bell — the nautical watch, one to eight • Temple Bowl — one struck note, long decay • Grandfather — a deep toll, one for each hour There isn't an audio file in the app, which is why the whole of it is about three and a half megabytes. The preview plays two of them; hear all five at tryhorologe.com before you spend anything. ON YOUR DESK • Drag it anywhere. Pull a corner to resize it. • In front of your wallpaper, behind your work. Never takes focus. • The full Westminster quarters, or the hour alone. • Quiet hours, a volume slider. Right-click the bell in the menu bar to mute it. • No permission prompts. No network calls. No account. No alarms, no timers, no world clocks. It tells you the hour. $5.99, paid once: nothing renews, and nothing unlocks later.
