Description
Little Pond turns your Mac desktop into a living koi pond. Koi, goldfish and a school of neon tetras glide beneath your icons and windows, and the water follows the real weather and time of day where you are. You can also turn the desktop into a harbor or a patch of space from the menu bar. HARBOR • Container ships berth and unload, with cranes, trucks and tugs all at work • Tides and waves follow a real marine forecast; holidays bring fireworks, lanterns and dragon boats • Optional Real Port (Hong Kong): the ships at the berth are the ones really in port right now SPACE • A detailed ring station turns above a planet, its solar wings tracking the sun • Shuttles dock, drones inspect the hull, astronauts go out on spacewalks; freighters, fighters and a flagship pass in the distance • Day and night follow your Mac's clock, the planet's clouds follow today's weather, and night brings city lights and auroras PLAY WITH THE FISH • Click the desktop to scatter food, and watch the fish race for it • Click and drag to stir the water and startle nearby fish • Rest the pointer on the water and curious fish swim over • Add particular koi and goldfish from the menu bar, or scoop one out THE WEATHER OUTSIDE, IN YOUR POND • Sun glints, rain ripples, snow, fog and thunderstorms • Dawn, dusk and night follow your local sunrise and sunset, with fireflies after dark • Four seasons: cherry blossoms, summer shade, red maple leaves, falling snow • Prefer a fixed scene? Turn real weather off and nothing is sent over the network QUIET AND EASY ON POWER • Drawn with Metal; pauses automatically when windows cover the desktop, in full-screen apps, on the lock screen and while displays sleep • Lowers the frame rate and quality on battery or in Low Power Mode • Adjustable frame rate, quality, number of fish and school size PRIVATE BY DESIGN • No account, no ads, no analytics, no tracking • Your city is estimated from the time zone by default, with no permission needed; use Location Services or choose a city if you like • Locations are rounded to about 10 km before they're sent to the weather service Available in English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Japanese. Weather data by Open-Meteo.com (CC BY 4.0). Harbor tides and waves from the Open-Meteo marine forecast; Real Port ship data from the HKSAR Government Marine Department (DATA.GOV.HK).
What’s New
Version 1.1 · 10/3/2026Two new scenes. Switch between them from Scene in the menu bar: • Harbor: container ships berth and unload while cranes and trucks work the quay and tugs, fishing boats and yachts come and go. Tides and waves follow a real marine forecast; holidays bring fireworks, lanterns and dragon boats, and now and then a rainbow, dolphins or a meteor shower. Turn on Real Port (Hong Kong) to berth the container ships that are really in port right now. • Space: a detailed ring station turns slowly above a planet. Shuttles dock, drones inspect the hull, astronauts go out on spacewalks, and freighters, fighters and a flagship pass in the distance. Day and night follow your Mac's clock and the planet's clouds follow today's weather; after dark the windows light up and auroras ripple along the sky. And every so often, a paper boat drifts across the pond.
