Description
Coming from Windows, you right-click in a folder, choose "New", and start typing. Then you get a Mac and discover the Finder can't do that. New File Context Menu fixes it in one minute. Right-click the background of any Finder window — or the desktop — choose New File, pick a type, and your file appears right there, already selected and ready to rename. No opening TextEdit, no "Save As…", no hunting for the folder you were just looking at. THE MISSING PIECE OF YOUR SWITCH TO MAC • Works exactly like "New >" in Windows Explorer • Create files in the folder you're already in — desktop included • New files are auto-selected so you can rename them instantly • Names never collide: you get untitled, untitled 2, untitled 3… 8 BUILT-IN FILE TYPES • Text File (.txt) • Rich Text File (.rtf) — opens in TextEdit • Markdown File (.md) • CSV Spreadsheet (.csv) — opens in Numbers or Excel • JSON File (.json) • HTML File (.html) • Shell Script (.sh) — created ready to run • Python File (.py) ALSO IN YOUR TOOLBAR Prefer buttons to right-clicks? Add the New File button to your Finder toolbar (Finder > View > Customize Toolbar…) and create files with one click. SET UP ONCE, FORGET IT'S THERE Enable the Finder extension once and you're done. The app doesn't need to stay open, doesn't sit in your menu bar, and uses zero resources until you actually create a file. PRIVATE BY DESIGN No accounts. No analytics. No network access at all. New File Context Menu collects nothing — everything happens locally on your Mac. The first time you create a file in a folder, macOS shows a one-time "Grant Access" confirmation; approve your home folder once and you're covered everywhere. If you've ever muttered "why can't the Mac just do this?" — this is the app that makes it do this.
