Description
MESA is a wavetable synthesizer unlike any other — it turns visuals into sound. Drop in a shader or a .vkograph and MESA renders it offscreen, reads the light across the image, and turns that into a wavetable you play. The picture literally becomes the oscillator — and the same visual keeps living behind your keys, reacting to every note. No other synth works like this. Behind the magic is a complete, serious instrument: THE ENGINE • 64-frame wavetables, FFT mip-banked for clean, alias-free playback everywhere • Unison oscillator stack with detune, spread, and a sub-oscillator • Zero-delay-feedback filter — cutoff, resonance, drive, self-oscillating • Full ADSR envelope, portamento glide, and a dedicated pitch envelope SHAPE THE SOUND WITH LIGHT • Vision panel: choose the scanline, weight color channels, bend the brightness curve, sweep time — one shader, a thousand timbres • 33 color palettes that reshape the tone, not just the look • VFX chain: 26 stackable visual modifiers, each one also an audio effect A FULL STUDIO • 3-slot modulation matrix with 2 LFOs, velocity, and mod wheel • 8-stage stereo FX rack: tape, wow & flutter, chorus, delay, reverb, lo-fi, tape-stop • Sampler mode — load any audio, auto pitch-tracked across the keys • Arpeggiator, Ableton Link, and MIDI Learn on nearly every control BUILT FOR YOUR WORKFLOW • AUv3 plug-in AND standalone app — one purchase, iOS + macOS • iCloud sync — build a patch on your Mac, it's ready on your iPhone • Categorized preset browser with import/export and full patch recall
What’s New
Version 1.2 · 10/2/2026HUGE UPDATE! Step Sequencer A real transport — PLAY, a BPM readout, grid and swing — so it starts on the bar in Logic, AUM or Ableton and follows the host when one's attached. Up to 64 patterns, added and duplicated from the pattern row, global to the session so switching sounds never costs you the line you just wrote. Arm REC and play a line in on the keyboard, or hand-place notes on the grid. Long-press any step for ratchets, per-step velocity, probability, and locks that park the filter or wavetable position until a later step hands them back. Each pattern can carry its own transpose, so duplicating one and nudging it up a few semitones turns the bank into a chord progression. Song Mode Paint an arrangement instead of filling in a table. Rows are your patterns, columns are slots, and a slot is one loop of whatever's painted there — drag along a row to repeat a pattern, start a stroke on a filled cell to erase it. Stays locked to the bar under a DAW or Ableton Link, however hard you're jumping it live. Bigger Arpeggiator Eight orders — up, down, up/down, random, down/up, as-played, chord and converge — with octave direction, gate, swing, ratchets and accent-every-N. BAKE drops whatever the arp is playing straight into the step sequencer, turning an arp idea into a pattern you can keep shaping by hand. Performance FX A Kaoss-style XY pad on the master bus — filter, stutter, crush, gate, delay or space, live only while a finger's down. Draw a motion path and it plays itself in time, hands-free under Hold. Fullscreen puts the pad edge-to-edge with the pattern bank along the bottom, one hand on the effect, the other jumping patterns, beat-synced so a set stays in time. Randomizer One tap builds an entire new patch — a shader you're not already using, plus a sound designed around it. Each roll picks a character first (pad, bass, lead, pluck, drone, texture) and shapes everything to fit, from oscillator and filter through envelopes, modulation, FX, palette and VFX. Every roll gets its own name. Love it? Save it. Don't? Roll again. Twelve New Anime Shaders + a Patch Each Cel-shaded flame licks, comic impact stars, speed lines, branching lightning, a spellcasting vortex and more — flat posterized colour and ragged ink outlines instead of smooth gradients. Twelve new patches to match, one per shader, built as opposites: Flame Tongue a filthy driven growl, Thunder Drop surgically clean with a deep pitch drop. Three More 303-Style Basslines Reservoir Acid, 303 Overdrive and Rubber Band join the bank, plus a dedicated Env→Cutoff knob for that classic envelope-driven filter sweep on any patch. Two Themes MIDNIGHT and DAYLIGHT, or follow the system setting — shared between the app and the plug-in. Save the Whole Rig SAVE now writes everything under one name — patch, shaders, pattern bank, song, tempo, MIDI mapping — and a new Projects browser loads it all back in one tap. Also In This Update Sustain pedal support (CC 64) and left/right arrow keys to step through patches. A MIDI Learn on/off switch in Settings, with coverage now reaching the sequencer and arp. Fullscreen visuals (⌘F) for the shader terrain. Global Volume in the top bar plus a master limiter, with a LIM meter to show when it's working. A Quick Start guide in-app. And a layout pass so iPhone/iPad portrait fit without scrolling, browsers that show your library counts, ⌘L for Hold, and a fixed pitch-bend strip.
