Description

A fast, native macOS workbench for developers. Diff and 3-way merge, PDF and Word compare, full-text search, git review, local-AI commit messages, image annotation, and a music player — one window, all offline. ⌘1 through ⌘6 switch modes. Every mode is free for 30 days. After that the Viewer stays free forever, with up to 5 Viewers — the tabs across the top. Lode Pro (yearly or lifetime) lifts that and unlocks the other five modes. VIEWER A multi-root file tree with an Excel-style tab strip. Native preview for text, Markdown (live split-view), CSV, XLSX, .docx, PDF, images and hex. Split the window into tiled panes to read several files side by side — the layout is saved with your workspace. Press / to filter the tree as you type; an optional Vim mode adds j/k navigation. Encoding round-trips on save: Big5 stays Big5, CRLF stays CRLF. DEVELOPER TOOLS In the Command Palette: format / minify JSON, JSON ⇄ YAML, format XML and SQL, encode / decode Base64, URL and HTML entities, decode JWTs, sort / de-duplicate lines, change case. Results open in a scratch tab — your file is untouched until you save. Hash any file (MD5 / SHA-1 / SHA-256 / BLAKE3) in one streamed pass. FOLDER COMPARE Drag two folders, get an Araxis-style dual tree with status colors and a mini-map. Rows stream in as the diff runs, no end-of-job freeze. Inline arrows copy a row left → right or right → left. Folder Sync builds a full dry-run plan, then applies it — every delete goes to the Trash, fully recoverable. FILE COMPARE Two files side by side in a real Monaco diff editor. F8 / ⇧F8 hops between hunks, ⌥ arrow merges, and Save round-trips the original encoding. Base / Left / Right 3-way merge resolves conflicts hunk by hunk; Folder Compare shows three-way status across a whole tree. PDF & WORD COMPARE Diff two PDFs by extracted text, or page by page as images with a pixel-difference overlay. Compare .doc / .docx the same way — no Microsoft Word required. On-device OCR (Traditional Chinese and English) turns a scanned PDF into searchable text. BINARY COMPARE Two binary files in synchronized hex panes. Amber marks changed bytes; purple marks bytes on one side only. Rolling-hash alignment handles inserted or shifted regions. SEARCH Multi-path full-text search on ripgrep's engine, linked into Rust. Results stream as the walk runs. Regex, file-type filters, context lines, and replace-across-files with dry-run preview. GIT VIEWER A read-only code-review pane on libgit2 — no system git required. Add several repos, click a changed file, get a real diff editor with F8 hunk-hopping and a commit filter. Optional AI commit messages run through your local Ollama; nothing leaves the machine. IMAGE ANNOTATION Mark up and retouch screenshots without leaving Lode. Magic Wand, Healing brush, Clone stamp, Blur / Pixelate to redact, numbered step badges, layered non-destructive editing — save as a copy, or overwrite on purpose. MUSIC PLAYER Right-click a folder to play it as a local library while you work. Playlists, A-B loop, sleep timer, shuffle, artwork — collapses to a toolbar icon. Big5 / GBK Chinese ID3 tags decode right. ACROSS EVERY MODE - Command Palette (⌘⇧P) reaches every action; hotkeys rebindable. - Workspace auto-saves — tabs, roots, search paths and pane layout return where you left them. - Web Clipper: a bookmarklet appends the browser selection to any .md file via the lode:// scheme. WHAT LODE IS NOT Not an IDE — no LSP, debugger, or package manager. Reach for it when an IDE is overkill. PRIVACY Lode is local-first: no analytics, no telemetry. AI commit messages run on your own machine via Ollama. Two things leave it, only on a button press: AI Summarize (to Anthropic, with your own API key) and Feedback (opens a prefilled GitHub issue in your browser). Viewer — free forever (new) • The file viewer — tabs, file tree, Markdown, CSV/XLSX, images, hex, music — no longer expires. Unlimited file tabs, every preview kind, no time limit. Three-way compare now streams the same way, and reads each file at most once. • New optional setting: treat files with identical size and modified date as unchanged, skipping the content read — a big speed-up on large, mostly-identical trees. • Quick Open (⌘P) is dramatically faster on very large folders. • Very large spreadsheets no longer freeze the app: CSV/TSV past 20 MB open in the streaming text viewer, and oversized workbooks hand off to your spreadsheet app. • Editing safeguards: files past the 4 MB text-preview limit open view-only instead of risking truncation on save, Replace-across-files preserves the original encoding (Big5 and UTF-16 round-trip; anything it cannot re-encode safely is skipped and reported), and workspace state survives crashes and ⌘Q alike (⌘Q flushes your layout first). • A broken settings.jsonc now names the syntax error instead of silently reverting every preference to defaults. • Web Clipper asks before the first clip to a file, so no web page can append to your notes without you seeing it. • Your AI API key moves into the macOS Keychain the moment you open Settings → AI. • Markdown exports to paginated A4 PDF, and file paths in Markdown preview are clickable.
