Photo Export is an open-source macOS app that backs up your Apple Photos library to any local or external drive — organized by year and month, exactly the way you'd expect. No account. No cloud. No subscription. Just a folder of your photos on a drive you control. EVERY PHOTO. THE WAY YOU LEFT IT. Each export is the version Photos shows you — your edits, your crops, your adjustments — saved at the original filename. Need the original bytes too? Turn on Include originals in the toolbar. BROWSE TIMELINE OR COLLECTIONS. Year/Month for time. Or your Favorites, your albums, and the folders you've grouped them into. Sidebar counts show what's already exported at a glance. EXPORT BY ALBUM, FOLDER, OR THE WHOLE THING. One click exports a single album. Select a folder of albums in the sidebar and the same click exports every album inside. Cmd-click tiles to pick an arbitrary subset, or Shift-click to extend a range. Hierarchies are preserved on disk — Collections/Albums/Trips/Iceland/ stays exactly that. KEEP IT IN SYNC, AUTOMATICALLY. Optional Auto Export: pick Timeline, Favorites, or Albums in Settings and Photo Export keeps your destination current as new photos land in Apple Photos. Transient failures retry on their own. Persistent ones show up in Export Issues with a Retry button. Off by default — turn it on when you're ready. ORGANIZED FOR HUMANS. Year/Month for the timeline. Album and folder hierarchy for Collections. Open it in Finder. Send it to a NAS. Hand it to your future self ten years from now. PAUSE. RESUME. NEVER DUPLICATE. Photo Export remembers every file it has already copied. Pause a long export, plug into a different drive tomorrow, click Export — it picks up exactly where you left off. No duplicates. No surprises.
