TreeRings helps you explore the hidden history of trees. By analyzing a photo of a tree’s cross-section, the app estimates the tree’s age by counting its growth rings. Beyond age, TreeRings also gives an indication of how favorable each year was. Wider rings may reflect years with good growing conditions — for example, a rainy summer — while narrower rings can hint at harsher times. These are always approximations, but they can provide fascinating insights when you’re on a hike, studying forestry, or working as a forest ranger. By comparing results from multiple trees in a region, TreeRings can even suggest patterns about the local climate over time. Simple to use: just point to the center of the cross-section and let TreeRings do the rest

This update improves tree ring analysis reliability. TreeRings now performs stronger checks before reporting an age, including automatic trunk center detection and comparison between multiple ring detection methods. The app can now also analyze tree trunk images selected from your photo library. If an image is unclear or does not look like a tree cross-section, TreeRings will avoid giving an unreliable estimate.
