BACKGROUND: Built from the ground up in the rugged mountains of eastern Afghanistan, Tactical NAV (also known as TACNAV-X) was developed by a U.S. Army Field Artillery officer with the vision of crafting a low-cost and highly accurate mobile navigation platform tailored for the U.S. military. Depending on your current position and your device one of the two methods is more correct. iOS/GPS altitude Altitude estimated by the device's location service. It works reasonably well in most situations but can't track small changes and can be unreliable indoor. Barometric altitude (iPhone 6 minimum) Altitude based on the device's barometer. This is how most hardware altimeters work. It can track very small relative variations but must be calibrated with weather data or GPS. Calibration with weather data grabs current sea-level pressure and temperature at your location from a nearby weather station. GPS calibration takes the current iOS/GPS altitude as a starting point then uses the barometer to track changes. Elevation database This method displays earth surface elevation at your location by polling an elevation database. It works even with very imprecise location data but requires network access. Surface elevation usually includes buildings and trees.

SkyLogger is a program for obtaining and storing flight data. The program is especially adapted for the usage by glider, hangglider and paraglider pilots. 
SkyLogger obtains the geodetic positions of the pilot during the flight and stores the data. Furthermore, the pilot is able to see during the flight the elapsed time, the distance to the take-off as well as the current ground speed and climb rate. A compass rose is indicating the current flight direction.
 For competitions the pilot's and the aircraft's name, the aircraft's ID and the to be flown route can be entered.
 During the flight the direction and distance to the next waypoint are shown on the display. After finishing the flight the stored geodetic data together with the data for the competition can be converted into the common IGC file format. Additionally, also other popular formats like GPX and KML are supported. The created files are stored on the iPhone or can be sent to servers or other computers.
