Cut and paste files and folders in Finder using Command+X and Command+V. Without this app, you have to first copy (Command+C) and then remember to move (Option+Command+V). You simply set up the app once and it runs in the background. The moving of files and folders are handled by Finder. The app just intercepts cut and paste commands when Finder is in the front and then simulates copy and move commands. If you don't paste after cutting, nothing happens and the files stay in place. It also works with the ForkLift app. Limitation: You cannot cut the name of a file when editing a filename in Finder or cut when using the search field. There is no way for the app to work around this.

Keyword Search lets you set up keywords to search the web with any search engine directly from the Safari address bar. Searching Wikipedia for information on simians is as simple as typing “w monkey” in the address bar, “wa 1+2” solves this mathematical conondrum on WolphramAlpha, “down example.com” lets you see if your favorite website is down for everyone or just you. You can also set any search engine to be the default search engine in Safari. Several search engines are provided out of the box, and you can easily add your own. All your searches and settings sync seamlessly with the Mac version of Keyword Search.

Erasing a drive does not remove what was on it. In a test, a marker file survived an erase in Disk Utility byte for byte on APFS and to 93 percent on exFAT, while the Finder reported an empty drive both times. Drive Wiper Pro overwrites the drive itself, so what the file system merely forgot is written over. • Overwrites the whole drive Not only the space that deleted files left behind. Every block the file system hands out is written over, so a drive you pass on does not carry your old data with it. • Says what that achieves, per file system On exFAT and FAT the app states that nothing is left, because a test found no trace afterwards. On APFS it does not: a small remainder survives in structures that are never handed out as free space. The app says so, and suggests formatting the drive as exFAT first when it has to be spotless. • Empties a drive only when you ask A drive has to be empty before it can be overwritten. If files are still on it, the confirmation offers to delete them first and tells you how many items and how much data that is. Decline, and every file stays where it is. • A faster route for encrypted drives An encrypted drive is already unreadable without its key. Drive Wiper Pro recognizes one and points out that erasing and reformatting replaces that key: the data stays on the drive, but nothing can read it again. • Past the cache, past the last reserve Every block goes straight to the media instead of resting in memory on the way. When a file system holds a final reserve back, the app keeps writing in smaller and smaller pieces until the drive accepts nothing more. • Watch it work Write speed and progress are there while the drive is being written, along with the time remaining for the stretch that can honestly be estimated. The closing stage and the file deletion name what they are doing rather than show a number nobody can predict. • Honest about failures A drive that stops accepting data is given a minute, then reported as failing instead of leaving a wipe that hangs forever. A drive that takes nothing at all, or more than it can physically hold, is reported too. The app never claims a wipe succeeded when it did not. • Every drive at a glance Capacity, format, connection and encryption on each row. A drive that cannot be wiped says why - read-only, or still holding files - and your startup drive is never listed at all. • Stop whenever you want Cancel at any point. Files not yet deleted are left alone, and every file the app wrote is removed again. • Several drives at once Overwriting is slow on cheap media. Start as many connected drives as you like and let them run together. • Works with your drives USB sticks, memory cards, external hard disks and SSDs, formatted as APFS, HFS+, exFAT or FAT32. Network shares are deliberately left out, because a share cannot be overwritten from here. • One pass is enough Modern media does not need seven passes, and this app does not pretend otherwise. Drag a window until the cursor hits one of these zones then drop the window to have it cinch into place. By file name, date, size, and even plain text content (including RTF, Word and Excel files, but not PDF files – see note below). • Recover a file whose name you partially remember? • See what files got changed in the past 5 minutes? • Find all the largest files on your disk? • Uninstall software that leaves files in hidden places where Spotlight doesn't look? • Search with regular expressions? Find Any File (FAF) is the perfect tool for these tasks. You can even search on disks that are not indexed by Spotlight, including network server (NAS) volumes. Find Any File can find files that Spotlight doesn't, e.g. those inside bundles and packages, and inside system folders that are usually excluded from Spotlight search. Contrary to Spotlight, it does not use a database but instead searches the data on disk directly. This lets you search for file properties such as name, creation and modification dates, file size, even plain text inside files, but also makes it slightly slower. However, since FAF now includes Spotlight results where possible, you'll still get such results as quickly as with Spotlight search in Finder. Another useful feature is its hierarchical results view (see screenshots). It lets you view the found items within their respective folders, making it often much easier to browse through 100s of found items. •• Note about text search inside files ••   FAF can search file content only in plain (unformatted and RTF) and in zip-compressed text files (as used by Word and Excel for instance), and with less freedom than what Spotlight search offers in this regard.
